Greetings and welcome to the Young Black Scholars’ Website.
It’s amazing to believe that what started in 1986 as a simple solution to Black students not being competitive for college, has turned into a National Model of Academic Excellence. From the beginning, Young Black Scholars (YBS) adopted a “Village Approach”. Our history began with support from the Community, Corporations, Colleges/Universities, High School Administrators, and Individual Volunteers - all working with the 100 Black Men of Los Angeles toward a common goal. This strong “Village” of supporters continues to exist today.
For over twenty (20) years, YBS has focused on providing services and opportunities that support its members in increasing their academic standing, developing their leadership skills and creating well-rounded students who are competitively eligible for college. We provide a foundation for lifelong learning and encourage the scholars to reach high for their goals. In twenty plus (20+) years, we have supported over 21,000 students. 98% were admitted to four (4) year colleges/universities of their choice.
The 100 Black Men of Los Angeles, Inc., the YBS staff and our cohort of co-sponsoring organizations care deeply about access to college AND graduation from college for the students we serve. Our “Village” proudly assists its scholars in their pursuit of a competitive education, as is testament by the success and diverse professions of our Alumni.
We encourage you to become part of our family.
